Is it normal i made up characters as voices in my head to cope with my situation?

For as long as I can remember I’ve always had these made-up characters in my head who talk to me (and I talk back). I didn’t know what they were, I thought I had multiple personality disorder, but I think as a kid I formed my own coping mechanisms for the bullying and the abuse.

They range from being a helping older sister or motherly figure (who’s also a bit strict) to a young man who likes to narrate my life or something. They’re not all one character though, they’re multiples and they talk to each other too.

So, am I weird or what?

Actually not a bad thing. I have voices in my head but they all sound the fucking same!

Wish i had developed different voices..

Would have had a Jamaican for chilling. A Japanese person to say "Never give up". And a German for MURDER!..

    Anyway good for you

If you just hear them in your head as part of your thoughts it's fine, and then it's just a coping mechanism that you came up with. However if you start hearing and seeing them right in front of you like anyone else then that's another matter entirely.

Doesn't hurt anyone. Does it bother you?
