Is it normal i'm kind of afraid of dogs after mine died?

I had dogs, and pretty big ones too, for my entire life up until my last two passed away a few years ago and I just didn't have the time for another dog. I was never afraid of them and loved them (I still love them, but am kind of nervous around them now).

I haven't been around many dogs since, except the few I have have been poorly trained and I was mildly injured by one, who was just overly excited and knocked me over. Another one jumped on me in a similar manner all the time and knocked her face into mine pretty hard a few times. I get really nervous around big dogs jumping on me now and am kind of nervous about dogs in general anymore. Not full on afraid, but I'm timid to approach them, even if I know they're friendly.

If it makes any difference, I've also been around horses my entire life but felt the same way after a break of a couple of years from them. I was nervous about handling them, even simple stuff I'd done before.

    • I wish I could, but I don't feel I have the time for one, unfortunately. :( I work long hours and don't feel it would be fair to leave a puppy alone for all of that time.

Wow! We had a big rough collie, but she was obedience trained. My sister, and the dog went to classes together.
