Is it normal i'm here procrastinating on is it normal while..

I have a huge undertaking to get to? Time is of essence but I just can't bring myself to start. This is the story of my life. I'm always overworking myself before deadlines because I can't get started earlier and in due time. Has anyone who is or was like this ever been able to change?

    • But I *AM* thinking about the outcome! Then I get really anxious because I can't start and avoid it until the last minute (not exactly the "very last", otherwise I'd miss the deadlines). I end up delivering good quality projects and papers but I can only imagine that if I were able to get started earlier they would've turned out to be excellent quality or nearly flawless. It's so frustrating!

        Use this frustration to motivate you.
        Is it possible you're anxious of doing poorly even if you try your best? Or maybe you lack focus?

        • I'm way past being afraid of doing poorly- I've been like this for years and years, I'm confident I can deliver, just never my best because of lack of time in the end.

            Well, next time, instead of just imagining what you can do at your best, set a goal and do it. Break your tasks into smaller ones and tackle them step by step.

            It could also be the way you are. Maybe it's just the way your head works. Some people work better that way.

            • You're right, it *is* the way I am. I shouldn't even have made this post because I already know how it goes. Invariably! I guess I just wanted to tell someone and try and figure out if that would ever change. I know for a fact that change is possible - I used to be one of those people who were consistently late for everything, I mean EVERYTHING, and suddenly I learned how to manage and respect time. In these cases (due dates) I still have to work on. Anyway, thanks for the replies! :)
