I know how you feel OP. I've this one obese best friend in college years. I would surprise hug him about 3-5 times a week without valid reason and it felt so relaxing, comfortable and warm. He didn't mind it too. Now, I miss him and his warmth.
I wouldn't say it's normal but I think you might like it because they're soft. Kind of like a pillow.

When I was in college my suite mate snuck a kitten in the dorms, but she didn't take really good care of him, because she was a party animal. So the little guy spent most of his time in my room with my roommate, and I. My roommate was morbidly obese, and the kitten loved cuddling with her, to tell you the truth I might have been a little jealous.
Feeling their warmth... if they don't object, keep doing it.
Obese humans need love too.
