Might be that my father used to play them in the house on occasion, or just the Scottish ancestry, but even though I've always been adverse to similar loud noises due to having Aspergers, I've always loved listening to bagpipes. Most people I've spoken to hate the sound and loudness.
Me not like em! They sound horrible and I find it shocking that a full grown man would wear a skirt. no offense
Maybe if I'd been to Europe, I'd appreciate it more. Any music for me with bagpipes is AWFUL!
I liked them when I was a kid, and they always brought tears to my mother's eyes (emotional - not of pain). No idea why, but I do know it's dubious that it's some weird genetic thing since I've researched our family history and know the nearest Scottish ancestry is way, way back.
I still find them stirring, but that's overlaid with more negative emotions. I lived in Scotland for many years, and now I associate the pipes with Scottish nationalism as well as all the romantic twaddle that's fed to tourists.
