The last word doesn't mean you actually changed people's minds. You just made them give up, finding that it's useless and unproductive to talk to you in this manner. It is not necessarily abnormal to talk like that, but not helpful in any ways. It just pisses people off and your actual win is 0. People abandon the discussion, get mad and nothing changed. It's your decision but it doesn't offer you anything apart from the mental comfort given by the illusion that you won something. Changing people is hard, and being direct won't work, just as it doesn't work with changing your mind as well.
Making them look like fools doesn't mean they gave up their opinions. Again, it means that everyone has the illusion that they lost, but they'll still think in the same way, and will even believe stronger in their own point of view, feeling attacked by everyone. A successful change must come smoothly. I've never changed my mind in a fight, but I was convinced by rational people who show me that they have no interest in making me loo klike a fool, but purely showing me how the reality is, which is a strong sign of impartiality and wiseness.
Not necessarily: maybe they're like me and don't want to waste their time & energy arguing with someone who's not going to change his/her mind about anything.
I'm not a fool or weak and I often have "ammunition" (your military allusions are a worry!) I see no point in producing with some people. Life's just too short.
People that give up actually have lost the battle as the other pursues to try prove their point while the other just looks like they have nothing worthy left to say, hence no more effort is given.
Makes them look weak

As a matter of fact it does because it shows the other has given it up which makes them look like a fool, weak and that they have no ammunition

My military allusions are a worry?
Why be so fussy over the way I worded an observation
Well that is simply your opinion but in the eyes of stubborn bulls, it's a sure sign of weakness

That is very true.
I beg to disagree.
People that give up actually have lost the battle as the other pursues to try prove their point while the other just looks like they have nothing worthy left to say, hence no more effort is given.

Refusing to engage in pointless argument isn't giving up, it's preserving one's sanity and time and energy
