Is it normal i learned more history from listening to sabaton than i did in school?

History lessons in school are too damn boring. We should just let the students listen to Sabaton instead.

That's a problem with western academia as a whole. This ends up leaving students learning more outside of their classrooms.

Very true, I actually really enjoy learning about history but the teachers make it so boring to learn! Its not as fun when there's a damn quiz on the most pointless parts of the lesson.

Shitty teachers. Shitty books. It sucks because history is incredibly engaging when done well and it rarely is. So, yes, it makes sense that you would learn more from a source that actually interests you.

I used to despise history class. Then I got put in a history class with a fabulous teacher. He was insane and he wore an actual cape instead of a winter jacket. On our first day of class he had the lights off and a slide projector up and he reenacted the entire magic bullet, BACK AND TO THE LEFT scene from JFK. Ofc no one in the class had heard of that movie, so we all thought he crafted the entire presentation himself. Conspiracies, government cover ups, the grassy knoll, the warren commission...holy fuck. To 15 year old edgelord me, it was SO FUCKING BOMB. That was the day I started finding history interesting.

Wow! Not only is that fucking amazing but it's somewhat bizarrely similar to my experience. I also originally hated history. In fact, it was arguably my least favorite subject. Then at about the same age you stated, I met an eccentric teacher.

He didn't wear a cape but he wore things like purple and green pants and wore a new, outlandish tie each day, usually some variation of a bow tie but always eccentric as fuck. He had skipped a few grades and was only late 19 or 20. As the law demands, naturally every girl in the class had a huge vanity monument-sized crush on him.

I used to bring a guitar to school everyday. He had noticed and ended class early so he could ask me to play for the class (and him) at the end. He told me he'd been a student at this same school not that long ago and always played the school battle of the bands with the high school punk rock band he'd been in.

Must have been so weird for the teachers who taught him now having to treat him as their peer even as he dressed as much the same as he could get away with. I'm glad you made me remember that guy. But yeah, he made me think like, damn, maybe history is alright.
