Is it normal i have no sympathy for drug addicts

My cousin who I was close with growing overdosed this weekend. He chose to throw away all he had a died useless fool, and I refuse to go his funeral and honor such a worthless idiot.

And why should I feel bad? Because he might be “going through some stuff” and needed to “escape reality. Too bad! Everyone goes through hard times, so quit pampering yourself in self-pity and excuses and choose to take drugs.

And how do these losers justify in their mind how their actions affect loved ones? Am I really supposed to feel sorry for such selfish people? And they still want to think of themselves as victims? I just see them as failures who want to blame their problems on everybody else and make it an excuse to indulge in their primitive, weak behavior.

It's normal you're angry with your cousin: anger is very often a component of grief. However, staying away from the funeral could well be hurtful for his parents and close family, so maybe you could put your anger to one side and support them rather than focussing on yourself.

I think you ought to go to the funeral, then quietly, and respectfully mourn the loss of the person you once knew before he became a drug addict. Now that your cousin is dead the person he was before he became a junkie can never come back, and that is a massive tragedy.

    • I agree with you here as well.

Funerals are for the family and not the dead. If he feels bad for what the addict put his family through, why he can’t he put away his anger to be there for his aunt and uncle?

I say go to the funeral.
If you don't go, you will most likely regret it someday.

Right now you are mad as hell because your friend did this to himself but one day you will forgive him. Do you really want to think, "I should have at least went to say good-bye".
There is a chance you will go to it and regret THAT later but not as likely.

On a diferent note - it is easy to shun someone for fucking up, for being human. Just remember this - if we all got what we deserved from our actions, we would all be sorry sacks of shit. Some people luck out and elude their just dues and some are not as lucky.

It's okay to be angry, everyone grieves in their own way.

I even have sympathy got people that got the death penalty. Even if they kill someone I feel sorry that theyre gonna die.

I didnt either until it was me. To be honest though the self pity held me down. You have to pick yourself up by yourself. Its the mindset.

You should not have no sympathy. But it is usually their faukt in some capacity, but we all make mistakes. So just because that is not a mistake that you make, does not mean you should not feel for them.
