Great that you have a good life, man. I’ll write about mine so you have something to compare with.
I’m 30 years old, single, residing in Copenhagen and I hold a M.Sc in CS & Engineering specialized in embedded systems (a specialization that isn’t relevant to my current field of work).
I started my career by working my ass off as an Accenture consultant. It’s a great steppingstone, but instead of waiting for promotions, I swapped to the client side after 2 years. Since the client had been paying consultancy rates for 2 years to keep me, I had very high negotiation grounds and literally doubled my salary when switching over. That switch made me earn more and the client pay less by getting rid of the man in the middle.
I stayed at the client for 3 years and recently (last year) swapped to a competitor for a 15% raise. Awesome working conditions, great work life balance and a fat paycheck.
Living at home with your mom? I bought a 2.7 million DKK apartment in town and it’s already paid off.
Like your freedom? I bought a brand new 550k DKK car last year, cash.
Major savings in the bank? Atm, I have over 1 million DKK sitting in my bank account.
1 euro ≈ 7.5 DKK
1 usd ≈ 6.5 DKK
Like your slack lifestyle? I work 37h per week, mostly from home. I only turn up on-site once per week.
Well, buddy. Glad that you like your lifestyle! I don’t intend to step on your toes with my post. Just highlighting that your standing highly depend on your environment. There are a lot of highly educated people out there who has achieved what I have achieved and more. In Copenhagen, people won’t even lift an eyebrow for my financial situation. In your case, most people would think that you’re weird for living with your mom. Dude, how do you even get privacy?
Hang in there. I'm a retired missile engineer worth $1.9M (12.4 million DKK). I've traveled all over the world on engineering projects, worked with software engineers in many countries, and given my family an enriched life experience few families have.
You would understand what I'm talking about. The OP will never have a clue.
IIN I have a better life than most of you
