Title says it all. I have been employed where I must wear a tie which I think is stupid. I have NEVER been employed somewhere where I am paid well enough to justify wearing a tie. I think they are choke chains for people to use on you. Seeing someone in public wearing a tie doesn't improve their appearance.
I dunno, I guess I got real casual back in the nineties with grunge and what not.
I hate ties too. I think it's a antiquated hold over from another age. I will only wear a tie if and only when there is no other option. Otherwise I wear a shirt with the top button undone even with a suit which I also hate wearing..
I had to wear one at my last office job (many years ago), and the minute I hit the elevator when the day was done..It came off. In the morning, I'd leave it off until getting inside my office, sometimes longer. Just hated it.
Ties are a stupid anachronism. Blame King Louis XIII of France and the Croatians for them.
Apparently, some Croatian mercenaries Louis XIII hired used a strip of cloth to keep the top of their uniform jackets closed, and he thought that looked so cool he turned the necktie into a fashion accessory. He also made wigs for men popular, and they eventually evolved into the ridiculous white, powdered flea- and lice-paradises that were all the rage in the 1700s. We should all be grateful those fell out of fashion long ago.
Louis XIII died at the age of 41 from ulcerated bowels, tuberculosis and doctor-administered enemas and bleedings, so there is some justice in the world.
