  • If it has been ten years, how do you know what the experience is? I have never been upselled at a salon and I find it awkward because they don't talk, not because they do. Also, there is usually this giant mirror for you to look at and you can see the person cutting your hair. Not all hair places are the same. But In only cut my hair once a year in average so what do I know.

    • I was dragged along several times as a kid (even hated it then), tried to give it more chances, but most of the time I just hated the experience. I don't mind talking, I just don't like facing away from someone while we talk. Sometimes they faced me towards the mirror, others away. I live in a place where there aren't many options and don't feel it's worth it to drive clear out of my way for a haircut I can do myself or allow a friend to do so I just quit going.

      • Like I said, I only go one a year so my experience is minimal. But I am pretty easy going. Lots of services don't face you while getting them. Almost all doctors look at a specific body part. Even the dentist is honed on on your mouth but the rest of your face is ignored. And a massage therapist hardly ever talks to your face. I don't think it's the salon specifically as they are pretty personal choices to begin with. Depending on your hair, it can be rather helpful to get a perspective that can be difficult to obtain with your own self. But if you don't require it, you don't require it. But it is done out of stubborn avoidance of the situation, or because you would choose that style regardless of how you get to it?
