I talked my mom into having another child with my dad at 43 because she was on the fence about it but really wanted one. Was it a bad idea? I started reading about birth defects and other complications after 40.

    Why are you panicking about birth defects when none have been detected? An increased risk is not a guarantee, I have known people who's mothers had them in their 40s and they turned out fine. Relax.

    Wouldn't the intelligent thing to do have been to read about birth defects and other complications after 40 BEFORE you talked your mom into having another child? Oopsie.
    Unless of course, you want your mom to die, then that's a horse of another color.
