Is it normal i feel that my identity pushes me towards right wing politics?

Let me start by saying that I grew up poor and am a white male. I went to a terrible school that was originally built as a prison and converted over later. I would be threatened by ethnic gangs everyday and occasionally attacked. My childhood was particularly miserable because I was white and therefore a target.

I would grow up to be somewhat wealthy and I always make time to study at university part time because I love learning. However there is always a barrier within the circles I currently move in because I will stand up and advocate for poor white people, men in general and I won't tolerate people marginalizing my opinions for being a white male. I think that last point is the reason I end up in the right wing or even far-right wing camp.

I know what it is to be in a marginal essentially voiceless group. Yet whenever I talk with left wing groups if I speak on a disagreement about an issue of gender, race or religion, I am immediately told that as a white male I just can't understand. I also feel responsible for advocating for poor children growing up like me, facing the same issues I did because I don't see other people doing that. Sure white people in general have plenty of political voice but not the poor among them.

It actually sucks because I am left wing on economic principles, I'm not a white supremacist, I'm not anti-immigration and I am not anti-gay. Yet at least in the right wing if I disagree with something I am not immediately dismissed as a privileged white male.

So what you're saying is that, if some liberals disagree with you, they'll label you a far-right lunatic. Apparently, "tolerance and acceptance for all" is easier said than done.

Saying you're unable to understand something because you're white is pure racism.
Also: "Oh, you wouldn't understand!" is what teenagers say when they ran out of arguments.

Politically I am somewhere in the middle*. Some of my opinions go far to the right and others very far to the left. I do what I believe is right and I don't care what people label it.

    *I'm not American

Not every person who is right wing is a racist who hates gays. That is just as prejudice as saying all white men must be rich. Look up "Log cabin republicans" They believe in the values of the party but believe its alright to be gay. Also I dont think most people are anti immigration. They are anti illegal immigration. Its like a club and everyone gets drinks but they have to pay a weekly fee of 10 yen/peso/dollar/euro a week. Yet a bunch of people sneak in and steal the drinks and suddenly half the people who wanted drinks dont get any. Yet they are still forced to pay for them as it is included in the fee to be part of the club. So dont you think that is going to be upsetting for the people who have to pay for benefits they are no longer getting?

I read your story and it sounded just like mine, with the exception that I am right wing BECAUSE of those experiences. However, I'm not racist, anti-immigration,nor anti-gay. That is the left wing representation of us. We are for LEGAL immigration, my girl is Asian, and as far as anti-gay, we don't care what you do in your bedroom we believe in equal rights we just don't want the gov. Forcing the church (in any religion) to call it mairage because mairage is ordained by God (in any religion) so to call it that is blasphemous.(in any religion). No I am strong because of my negative experiences and those who do not understand don't have to. They can just suck it up or be miserable it's not my job to force others to see the world as I do. Negative people will always try to bring you down...always. Best you don't waist precious time and resources on them and align yourself with positive people.

Uh, why would the government force churches to call something marriage? That would violate the first amendment in two different ways. Has anyone suggested that should happen?

Well, I can understand what you are saying.
As far as social issues go, I am very liberal. In fact, I'd practically be a Democrat if I didn't hate their mentality so much. I work 40 hours a week and go to school as a full time student, I am working my ass off to get my degree and to get into the military to get some work experience.

In the meantime, my friends do nothing but complain about how hard it is to go anywhere in life. The thing is, they do jack shit nothing. A part time job at Subway and they say "I don't have the time for college", but all they do outside of 16 hours a week of work is party and fuck. But no, they don't have time to go to school so they sit around and complain about not being able to get a better job or about how they can't go to college because "it's either work or school" and "the government needs to do more to help us find better work".

So they advocate for the Democrat camp. Those were the Democrats I grew up with so even if I agree with the policies of the party, I couldn't associate myself with them due to that.

It's a personal history thing, really. I get you.

You sound American. Only an American would put so much emphasis on someones skin colour. I fail to see the difference between a poor white person and a poor black person.

    • I remember when people with a certain skin color were threatening and beating me. They certainly saw a difference between a poor white person and a poor black person.

Though the real difference is that poor black people have people to advocate for them whereas poor white people do not.

I see no justification for your views in what you've said here, at all. Some people are just attracted to far right politics I guess.

As if he's supposed to "justify" his political beliefs to someone on the Internet.

Actually, I see no justification in your inane "comment". Some people are just attracted to being dumb, I guess.

I think you've missed the point. He's attempted to justify it but hasn't, at all.
As if I care, or want a justification of his beliefs.

Do at least try to think before commenting.

I'll I agree with that. White is the highest evolved race of humans. Except maybe Asians, they're pretty smart and level headed.

You're a white man, get over it. How will politics stop little boys from getting jumped in shitty neighborhoods anyway? Shit happens. I think what would help most of all would be for everyone to quit playing the victim. At least you weren't raped, kidnapped and sold for drugs. Life is getting harder for the white man in America, but it's getting easier for everyone else. I don't care if anyone "represents" me at this point, as a poor white woman, because I can't depend on anyone to help me but myself. Honestly, I don't know shit about politics, but I do know it has nothing to do with me as an individual.

Right-wing views aren't restricted to white or male groups. When you say your views are dismissed because you're a white male, I find that very odd. In the UK the leader of all the main parties are white males, including the most left-wing and right-wing ones. Even the most left-wing parties generally stand up for poor white people just like they stand up for poor non-white people.
If you choose your ideology based on how others of that ideology respect your opinions, that would be wrong.
