Is it normal i dont understand the sriracha fad

Seems like in the past few years Sriracha hot sauce has become the new big thing. More and more i see other brands incorporating it into their menu. Its everywhere nowadays but i don't understand what people like about it

I tried it a couple times and it tasted like a shitty low quality hot chili sauce. Kind of gross actually.

And i normally love really spicy hot sauces. Tabasco, habanero, chipotle, jalapeño, scotch bonnet, all the best ones i love them

Is it normal i dont get this whole sriracha thing

  • It really depends what you eat it with. I first encountered it in Bali (called Sambal there), and it was the perfect hot sauce for Indonesian food. It goes well with many Asian dishes, but it certainly doesn't go too well with Mexican or curries.
Anytime something like that becomes a fad, you can bet that most of those fadding, aren't at all concerned with anything other than seeming cool.

  • It's just another hot sauce

  • I've been aware of (and occasionally used) it for longer, but the big thing that seems to have brought it to popular attention is when there was a shortage because their factory got shut down for smelling too strong. (True story.)

Anyway, I kind of like it, but it's mostly good with Asian food. It would be strange to put it on a hotdog IMHO, regardless of what the bottle tells you.
