It's needed because as Clunk42 said, animals gnaw on things, which cleans their teeth. Not to mention that humans eat a lot of processed foods (especially anything with sugar in it) that are much worse for your teeth than the foods animals eat, as well as the fact that when animals' teeth rot out and they can't eat anymore, they just die. The vast majority of animals also live nowhere near as long as your average human, so their teeth don't need to last as long.
It's also just basic hygiene. People will not want to be around you if your breath smells (and trust me, it does; just because you don't notice it doesn't mean no one else does). I had a friend several years ago who neglected his hygiene, including brushing his teeth, and it was hard to stand anywhere in his vicinity because you could smell his breath and B.O. from what seemed like a mile away. Not trying to be mean, but just telling you that so you don't embarrass yourself.
You will have a lot of issues with your teeth and gums down the road if you don't start taking care of them, and teeth issues can also lead to other serious issues (IIRC, certain nerves in your teeth are connected to your brain and heart, and so serious decay can also affect those).
IIN I don’t brush my teeth
