Is it normal i didn’t know who david bowie was until he died?

As you can guess I was born after he was big, but I remember hearing about his death and being like “I…. THINK I know that name, wasn’t he on spongebob once or something?” I remember a teacher of mine playing his music soon afterwards and I didn’t recognize ANY of it, and didn’t know it was him until she pointed it out.

I’m only thinking about it because I was just watching a video about The Beatles discography and am about to watch a video from the same channel about David Bowie and I kinda realized how little I know about him. I did see a video of him covering John Lennon’s Imagine, which I really liked, but that’s about it.

I knew who he was and knew a few of his songs alright, but when he died I was surprised to learn how popular and influential he was.

The younger generation is always ignorant of the older generation’s great artists. I know that for me it was a great awakening to hear the fantastic music of the 40’s, Glen Miller, Benny Goodman, with all the great singers like Jo Stafford and Ella Fitzgerald.
