Is it normal i always get bit by any insect around and we'll?

Without fail, if there is a bug, any bug, I get bit. I had bedbugs once and the second it would bite, I'd welt up, even with cream. I'd take off the article of clothing and it would be right where I was bitten still. I'd always find it. Mosquitos, spiders, fleas, you name it and if you have any when I come around, I'll get bit in the first 5 minutes until I leave. My skin welts severely to show. Is this common? Do I have extra appeal to insects than other people? I know people are allergic thus sensitive to the bites, but can some people appeal to insects more than others?

Yes. This is normal. Mosquitos specifically have developed senses to detect body heat, carbon dioxide exhalation all over your body (bees also do this to target eyes and mouths when stinging), sweat (ethanol). Pregnant women exhale 21% more carbon dioxide than when they are not pregnant. They are targeted by mosquitoes more than double that of normal people. I cannot find it, but I remember seeing a video of a test a business did on mosquitos where there was a forked tube with one arm of one person on each side and a fan blowing on the arm to displace the carbon dioxide and other smells down the tube. That way the mosquitoes could choose who they preferred. Then the mosquitoes would be released into the tube opposite of the arms and they would choose arms. They saw repeated attacks on the same person in increased amounts based on a specific gene that a person can have or cannot have. Pretty cool stuff.

I've wondered what exactly attracts insects to people, my girlfriend is way more prone to bugs than I am. Blood sugar maybe?

  • Thank you for putting thought into my problem. That is more along the information I was seeking.

Have you tried expelling less carbon dioxide?

Maybe you taste good to the creepy, crawly critters?

  • Wow Paramore that was brilliant. Tell you what. You and I both try that, if you give it as advice you should be able to do it yourself; don't make anyone do anything you wouldn't do yourself. We together may make the world 2 less assholes smogging and hogging the good people's air.

I didn't mean it like that.
Insects are attracted to the carbon dioxide we give off. So have you tried breathing through your nose, we expell CO2 slower that way. Also, when there are insects everywhere it's instinct to flail around and shout to get them to go away but you're actually releasing more CO2 by doing that, thus attracting more insects.
