  • Mocking someone for religion (or lack of religion) often achieves the exact opposite outcome of what the anger is trying to achieve. An adult's religious philosophy isn't going to change simple because you tell them to change it. Religion is often one of an individual's highest priorities in life. They often believe their truth to be the only truth.

After a certain age, people start to become incredibly stubborn with religion. This is true of all religions; but is especially true of the major ones.

    • Agreed, and people often get even stronger in their stance when they are approached in a rude or disrespectful way about it. Definitely not a good way to convince someone to change.

      • That's a subconscious survival tatic. If you lasted up to a certain marker of time clearly what you believed worked out for your continued survival so it just sticks. Going off the beaten path could get you killed when the old way worked out thus far.

To change it you have to internally surmise that it's a benefit in the long term (including afterlife for religion) so you should change your behaviour or beliefs.
