Is it normal for your career to go downhill because of gaming?

Every night, I stay up until 2 or 3 and have to get up at 7 the next day to go to work. I drink coffee all day and snack on junk food. I know my work is suffering because of it. I've already gotten two warnings and I can sense my manager and others are unhappy.

When I leave work I get drive-thru fast food and start playing as soon as I get home to forget my troubles. This cycle keeps continuing, and weekends/holidays are even worse. I only get out long enough to buy more junk food (usually a large Costco pizza everyday plus chocolate bars and beer).

Normal for a 26-year-old guy?

  • Yep, absolutely normal for a self destructive person with no will power.

        • Just like you won the last time you quit? Hahaha.

        • Sure. You will have "won" when your lungs completely fail and you're relying on a plastic tube to keep you alive.

If being a healthy, drug-free young man of 21 makes one a loser, then yes, I am a massive one.

          • Let's see what you are doing in your 69th year on this planet, big mouth. Until then, there is no way you can compare your chicken shit existence to my life.
Anyway, from your many super depressing posts, I seriously doubt you will make it that long. I'd bet dollars to donuts you off yourself before 40.

            • Probably. After ISIS takes over, most of my generation will be headless corpses before we reach middle age anyway.

Modern society will probably be reduced to a smouldering, twisted wasteland by the time I'm 40, however. This country will be a sprawling mass of nothing but rubble and blood, with most sunlight blocked out by the whirling masses of incinerated human remains, and radioactive junk perpetually falling like rain from the dim skies.

Quite frankly, I hope it happens. Humanity deserves it.

  • I'll never understand the appeal of video games. They bore me to tears.

  • Yea but break the cycle before it breaks you. One liver, one life, many loves

  • No. That's just as bad as being drunk all the time. You have a problem :/

  • I get it- maybe you don't like your job. I think it's good you are working at least- but you might want to get a more exciting job you care about- then your game won't be as addictive.

  • You should close your eyes before 12 am and give your best at work.

  • As awesome as video games are, they're definitely not worth your career. I think you should put the PS4 away and get your life back together.

  • That's pretty damn harmful. You're going to hurt yourself in the longrun. Sometimes, when I'm having trouble with my fortitude, I watch this.

  • I think its pretty normal for guys in there 20s to be like that its not an attractive quality but having a social life or girlfriend doesn't sound like one of your priorities. The way you described yourself is one of the reasons I'm attracted to guys that are 10-15 years older than me. I don't want to hang out with a 20something boy or worse have to be his mommy.
