i'm not going to pick yes or no because i think it depends. if he had a bad falling out with this girl, he might've just lied to avoid digging up an old hurt.
but then you mentioned that he's lied about many other things as well. does he only lie about his past or is it also about current things? if it's only about his past then again, he might just have bad memories about it that he doesn't want to talk about. but if he seems to be someone who is lying to you constantly-- that's not a good sign.
i don't know this guy or what's going through his head but if it bothers you you could try talking to him about it. i guess just try to go about it in a way that isn't too aggressive.
