  • Yeah, that's not irony. I know it's a confusing word for some people, so I've linked you this article to help you out: http://www.cracked.com/funny-1085-irony/

I am not an extension of Mae. I offered no opinion on whether her friend was selfish or not. I'm simply saying that it is unkind of you to try and make her feel bad about it, when suicide is an extremely emotionally complex situation. I empathise with her, I posted this story, I have suffered the suicide of a close friend, and I can understand why some people might view it as a selfish thing to do. That's all.

    • Yeh you are totally right. What the hell have I been thinking? That friend of yours had a complete and total obligation just to YOU and not to themselves to keep living their life just because YOU were in it. After all it wasnt really their life to decide what to do with it, I mean right? YOU were in it after all.

Totally and completely selfish act for them do it. Their life wasnt their own to decide what to do with. YOU were in it.

      Hows that for irony?

      • That's still not irony?

And if you'd read my comment you'd understand that I didn't say it was selfish, I said I empathise with Mae, not that I agree with her.

        • Sure its irony. Its ironic that you empathize with someone who thought another's suicide was selfish but don't see it being selfish yourself when that person calls that same suicidal person selfish. Apparently the person in question had an obligation to others that outweighed their obligation to themselves. Your argument is like me saying I empathize with bums not wanting to work but I don't agree with it.

          • No. You're not very clever are you?

It's more like, if you stabbed your mum, you might have reasons for why you did it which I empathise with (like she was an alcoholic or abusive), but despite my empathising with your position, I still wouldn't think you stabbing her was ok.

You don't know what empathy means, do you? Here's another useful website: www.oed.com

Discover the story of English! Now, as I don't reason with morons, I shall not be responding to any further comments. Please do not confuse this with you getting the last word :)

            • So now you are teaching English lessons, though try as you might you arent doing a good job, was that your major in college? You do know what college is right? How ironic if it was and you still cant realize that my example for empathy is exactly the same as yours just using different scenarios. Its funny how a certain amount of education, albeit gained online since you like using links to prove points since you arent creative enough to think of them yourself, can give those that use them the idea of being intelligent.

Oh, I just thought of something else, how ironic it is that you use the term moron towards me!

I dont really care one way or another who would have the last word.

              • If I were you, I'd stop using the word irony, you really don't understand it at all. I take it you're American? And I'm doing Psychology at Cambridge University, but I do have a previous degree from the University of Edinburgh in English, I'm so pleased that you recognise my academic prowess :)and I do tutor both subjects for extra cash - I apologise if my comment sounded patronising, it was undoubtably intended to be so, but I was also genuinely trying to help you to not make such an idiot of yourself in the future. People pay good money for this advice, if I were you I'd take it.

I use links because I can't be fucked to explain it to you myself, and because you wouldn't listen if I tried anyway.

I've explained my point in what I thought was idiot-proof terms, I really can't simplify any further. Good luck, and I suggest you re-read the article I linked you on irony, it uses humour to break up the intellectual content, which may prevent you from becoming over-taxed.
