Is it normal for the only reason i want to lose weight is so i can have sex?

I am overweight by society's standards. I have never been interested in losing the weight for any reason. I am relatively healthy, and have not had any issues in the relationship(?) department. However, I have recently opened my mind to lots of sexual things. And now my only thought is to lose the weight so I can have hot, raunchy sex. Now, I know just cause you're overweight does not mean you can't have sex. I guess I feel I will have a much higher chance of having sex if I were to lose the weight, and look...skinnier? Is this normal?

  • Usually people say the reason they want to lose weight is so they will be healthier and happier. But you know. You know they're actually talking about their sex lives. Happy and healthy, indeed.

This is way more common than I think is usually said out loud. After all, heard about how much sex they have in the Olympic Village?

You are normal as all hell.

  • You can have sex fat, you know.

  • You sound like a 15 year old boy, "If I get a cool car, I can get a girlfriend."
Look around you. Do you not see plenty of attractive women (not girls, women) with overweight men? Women do not put near as much emphasis on esthetics as men do.
Loose weight for sure and seek to be healthier, for yourself, but if you can't get laid now, losing weight isn't really going to make all that much difference.

  • It's completely normal, but as much as society stresses weight as a huge deal in sexual attraction, there are people out there who honestly won't care. If you are overweight and it's a legit health problem - become healthy. If losing weight will make you personally happy with yourself - go ahead, in moderation.

If it's only about the sex (as I bet many other people are in your situation - which is so normal, btw), then I'd say work on looking for a relationship (if not in one already) with someone who cares for you mentally and physically with the way you are now. It'll probably be hard to accept yourself, but building confidence will help. Good luck. :)

    • But would you actually go through with it or is it just a passing thought?

  • I've had this thought a million times. I'm pretty overweight myself. However, my boyfriend couldn't care less about that and we do it really often. It's just really sad that we think those thoughts in the first place; makes being this way pretty depressing.

    • Yeah but you have someone to release those urges with.

I would say it's been a while and I haven't cared much for it until recently. And now if I were to lose it, then my chances would be higher? I completely understand you, even I know it shouldn't matter and yet...can't help but feel this way. :/
