Is it normal for scars to bleed less than regular skin?

Please don't judge or lecture me, but I cut myself on my stomach. There are literally hundreds of scars. Pretty much the whole thing is covered. But the problem is now I have to cut over the old scars because I'm out of room and don't want to cut where people can see. I feel like I'm cutting just as deep if not deeper, but it barely bleeds. Is that normal?

  • I'm sorry to hear that you feel obligated to inflict pain on yourself to feel a release. I went through a period of cutting before as I've been through a lot in the past and am still dealing with a bunch of stuff right now. I'd say it is normal because I remember cutting on the scars and they wouldn't draw as much blood. I never did that often though because scars are still in the process of healing and you don't want to mess with that. Please stop cutting yourself and try to use the rubber-band method in place of that. I hope you feel better sometime soon.

  • its due to scar tissue not having blood flow so naturally there would be less as well as possibly your body adjusting to getting cut often as when someone works alot with their hands develop thicker skin
