I don't know what your weight is, and even if you tell me you're overweight I can't be certain because you might just think that because of your eating disorder.
What I do know is that exercise is beneficial for almost anyone at any time, as long as the intensity level is appropriate for your own personal needs. So it's almost certainly a good thing for you to go to the gym.
Exercise isn't about losing weight, it's about increasing your overall fitness level which makes you healthier. So don't stop going to the gym unless your doctor gives you a very compelling reason to stop. I'm sure your family and friends mean well but they don't always know what is best.
