I think you will be hard pressed to find any parent that is so "hands off" that they won't even try to talk to their kids or tell them what to do - especially if they are the ones footing the bill.
Honestly, I wish I had parents that were able to give me some kind of reasonable advice, because I often felt like I had no freaking idea what to do.
By the time I was in college, my dad had passed away and my mom didn't have much sound guidance to offer because she lived such a sheltered lifestyle when she was my age.
Reasonable advice is one thing, if their son or daughter ask for it. But the "helicopter" parents have always run their kids lives. How are the kids going to learn to make decisions on their own, or make their own friends for that matter?
