Is it normal for parents to not want to talk with their kids

Just tried talking to my mom, she doesn't talk to anyone besides her husband and customers at her office job. And something she said shocked me, she got annoyed from talking because she said he has better things to do than waste time talking.

I get the feeling from both of my parents, have my whole life, I'm only just now questioning how weird it is that they only seem to talk when they have a problem.

    It is NOT normal and I'm sorry you've felt this has gone on your whole life. Parents should be happy to have conversations with their children and shouldn't consider it "wasting time". Building and maintaining a relationship with your children isn't a waste of time.

    Don't take it out on yourself :( it must have hurt you a long time to grow up like that. Sometimes, people who are hard on themselves can be extra critical of others, or they could be anxious. Maybe they weren't loved much when they were younger.
    You can't internalise it nevertheless. It keeps the cycle going, I'm being honest. Please try to be your own parent where possible. You aren't a defect, and I hope you remind yourself of why you are important, treat yourself with kindness like you would to your child. Are you putting nutritious things in your body? Are you sleeping enough? Are you directing yourself towards your goals?
    I'm sorry that your parents didn't grow up before they had you. It's not your fault.

    i voted normal because unfortunately a lot of parents are like this. but that is not okay or healthy. they should talk to you more, and not just when they have a problem.

    My parents, and sister are so loud, and they have a comment to say about everything. It can be really annoying.
