I'm a gay male. My friend is straight and married. During about a dozen conversations, he has called me by his wife's name or babe... always quickly correcting himself. Does this mean anything?
I do this all the time. I've called my mom my brother's name, my brother my dog's name, my friend "Dad", etc.
It usually happens when the person exhibits behaviour you're used to calling somebody else out on. My dog often breaks stuff by accident with her tail. So, when someone breaks a glass, I almost always instinctively shout out my dog's name. Like, "____! I mean,____, be more careful!"
Because your friend is presumably fairly intimate with his wife, the fact he calls you her name sometimes might suggest he's very comfortable with you, perhaps he thinks of you as more than a friend romantically?
My brother confuses my sister & his wife's names quite often. My brother is pretty brainy and his thoughts are not always in sync with the present company & circumstance.
Lots of straight men tend to associate gay men with womanly social attributes. Depending upon how you and his wife get along and how close a friend you are, and for instance, if he was an only child; then I do not think his misplaced monikers have any significant meaning. It could just as likely be that you who are emulating some of his wife's non-verbal queues that is causing the mix up.
