I think in North American culture it is normal to shave under the arms, legs, and pubic area. I've heard of other women shaving their forearms if they are hairy.
I don't think shaving your stomach and back is normal though, same with the reason why you're doing it. Dirt, oils, and bacteria make you dirty, not your hair.
I understand that hair doesn't make you dirty. It's more of a mental thing I have. It's weird because I don't necessarily care about other people's hair and I don't think people who don't shave are dirty. If my girlfriend doesn't shave her legs or something for a few days I couldn't care less. It's just in my head I feel much cleaner if I'm smooth. I just figured I couldn't be the only one who feels this way but an ex said something to me once that made me feel like I was abnormal.
