    • So why is it important?

      • Because it affects everything. When I signed up for college on a carpentry course on the first day they were accepting applications for the following year, I was offered a place. Several months later and with less than 2 weeks before I was due to start, I received a letter telling me I had been removed from the course as it was over subscribed. When I appealed the decision as I was one of the first people accepted on to the course, and had the required grades, I was told it was because they gave boys priority over girls as they were likely to find the course more beneficial. Having robbed me of my chosen career path because of my gender, I will not accept being told 35 years later than my gender is irrelevant.
Although I eventually turned my life around and made a success of myself, I suffered a series of unfortunate events in my youth, that eventually led to me working as a pole dancer in a strip club. I took this job out of desperation as an alternative to ending up homeless and jobless. If I was male I would have completed my college course in my chosen field and had the skills and qualifications to follow my desired career path. I would not have suffered the humiliation of having to remove my clothes with a fake smile plastered on my face in front of a bunch of dirty old men so they could get their rocks off fantasising about what they saw. So let me tell you my gender is everything to me as it has mapped my life, so I refuse to be told by a bunch of snotty nosed kids like you, that gender doesn’t exist. You kids think you have it all worked out, but you know fuck all.
