Is it normal for a 30 yr old woman to date a 24 yr old man?

Im into this man he just so happens to be 24 but looks 30. I happen to look younger so when we found out each other's ages we just laughed. He thought i was 20, I thought he was 30.. but my mother is against us. She has said she is sickened by me and how I'm dating too young and that I should only date older but this is the first guy I've been into for a long while..

What do you all think? Is 6 years apart too disgusting?

This poll is screwed up by your questions. In the title it asks if the age difference is normal, but at the end of your question it asks if 6 years apart is disgusting. I think most people would agree this is fine.

Finding an older man to date is an outdated societal survival tactic from generations back; older men equals financial security. I don't understand why we still hold on to that shit since women have so much more freedom. Please, if you care at all about your own happiness, don't listen to your mom on this one. Once above the age of 18, age don't mean much whether you're male or female; if you two like each other then so be it.

If you want a funny example of this age difference, watch Jenna Marbles on youtube. Her boyfriend whom she's been with for years, have an age difference of exactly 6 years with her being older. It's so fun to watch them do silly shit and be completely comfortable with each other.

Yeah, very true. There was a time when an old rich husband was the only way to secure oneself.

These days who you want to be with is much more about personal preference. My husband is a bit older than me but not by much, and I'm with him because of his personality and looks, not because of his age or social status. People should just pair up with whoever they feel attracted to naturally (so long as they are a consenting adult...)

Personally I prefer much older than me. For much the same reasons and more. Is it outdated? If course but it doesn't change the fact I'm attracted to that though

Yeah and they're super happy together same with Nick Jonas and priyanka they're like 10 years apart and definitely happy.

I think people stuck in the past are so brainwashed that they think a guy has to be older or the same age which is crazy

It's not normal in the sense that it's unusual. However it absolutely is not disgusting, it's not even that big of an age gap. Your mum is being really weird about this. You and your boyfriend do whatever you want and don't pay any attention to your silly mum.

30 year olds think they are so elderly and wise. While it is true you are not kids but at that age, you have not even likely had your first divorce. You think there is still hope for a better future, etc.

Wait til you get REAL old me RoseIsabella and I.

A 6 year age gap is far from disgusting, that would be like you dating a 17-year-old.

Congratulations on finding someone who makes you happy.

I think it's completely normal. You fall for a person, not a number. My dad is 48 rn and my mom is 41. That's 7 years and litteraly nobody cared (they're divorced) about the age difference. I think your mom should support you, if she's disgusted by you, she's not worth your time. A mother shouldn't be disgusted of their own child.

Im a 23 year old man and i was dating a 32 year old woman for the first 6 months or so of me being 23. Ive since broke up with her. But yes id say its normal enough, a little unconventional but totally acceptable and normal. don't let anyone, including your parents ever stand in the way of your love

The only problem here is that your mother is stupid and apparently has some very rigid ideas about how the world should work (dimness and a fixation on illogical hard and fast rules are often found together). A reasonable and intelligent mother would withhold judgement until she'd met the guy, got to know him, and listened to you talking about him for a while. Only then would she decide whether or not she liked him and if she thinks he's good for you.

The other problem is that you're thirty freaking years old, and you're still worried about what Mommy thinks of your boyfriends. Any parent who tells their 30 year-old offspring that they're "sickened" by their choice of partner is way too involved in their kid's life. That's controlling, disrespectful and manipulative, and a parent like that doesn't deserve to be listened to, never mind respected.
