Is it normal children’s show horrible histories gave me nightmares as an adult

I have recently been at home a lot and watching the children’s history show Horrible Histories while I eat lunch. It’s very historically accurate, has no real plot, some good songs and it throws up the occasional interesting fact.

However last night I had a nightmare that I was in a horse and cart with 4 enormous wagons behind it driven by a Victorian peasant. The wagons were filled with mummies and sarcophagi being jostled as they bumped over the cobbled streets. I was scrambling to get out of them, but kept slipping between gaps in the dead bodies and nearly getting buried in them whilst the Victorian geezer cackled at me.

I can watch adult horror films like IT, Cabin in the Woods and Unfriended and sleep like a peaceful log but Horrible Histories terrified me? I had to stop reading Series of Unfortunate Events as a child because it gave me nightmares that Count Olaf was kidnapping me.

is it normal that at 23 I’m still more scared by children’s scary stories?
