Is it normal being so attached to your cat as a man?

I'e grown up with cats since I was a toddler but my current love since last 15 years is by far the best. I love everything about him. I would never trade him for anything not even a younger hotter energetic kitten ;)

He is the perfect balance of loving, aloof, playful, polite, talkative. Sweetest voice. Not to mention one handsome fella! He even settles into the little spoon position when I'm in bed and nuzzles his nose into my arm. Proper darling. Best part is he isnt a glutton which means he looks in top shape naturally.

I'm afraid when he passes away due to old age, a new cat would never compare to him. Just last week I met a friend's cat who was cute sure but I could never imagine having that cat as a pet

Totally fine. Pets are part of the family.

Anyone who thinks you shouldn't love your pets just because you are male is not someone you want to be friends with.

Completely normal, the bond between friendly cat and human is a wonderful thing. Enjoy the time you have with your friend and make every day of his life happy.

Anyone who tells you men aren’t allowed to bond with animals is dead inside and should not be listened to.

    • Thanks for saying that. I know we live in good times where men are given freedom to not adhere to gender norms. But I still second guess myself sometimes having this much love for a cat. And feel as if it should've been a dog as that would be more "manly"

No. Omg it is so fucking egregiously masculine to love small animals. There's calanders with firefighters clutching bunnies, but even if it wasn't it's ridiculous to apologize. Would you really want a romantic partner who thinks it's weird to love old cats!?

        The answer is no

This all the way! Anyone who thinks it's "not manly" or somehow a negative thing to love cats is really strange, so who cares what they think?

Who are you to say how I or anyone else should feel. You are entitled to your opinion Countess and I am entitled to mine.

Your opinion of hating men who love to pet cat tummies?

            WRONG

            Sometimes people are just WRONG

People who fiddle kids are wrong, people who fuck dogs are wrong, people who hate cute kitty tummy rubbings are WRONG

You sound like a flat earther trying to tell me it's just an opinion.

            Insanity

All animals are individuals with their own personalities. My cat just turned fourteen years old, and he's irreplaceable as far as I'm concerned. I'm totally in love with my blue point Siamese cat!

All I can say is that you should cherish the time you have with him. And be ready for the inevitable- his death. If you are okay with death in general, then its okay.

Nothing wrong with that, actually that's good! Most girls like guys who love animals, no matter if it's a cat or a dog. I love all animals, but my coton de tulear dog is my whole world. She will turn 8 on 14.03. and I can't imagine the day she will be gone, this will be a tragedy for me.

Very normal! I have felt (and still feel) the same way about every pet I've ever had!

I don't think it matters what sex you are, it is always completely normal to love your pets and be attached to them!

When that time does come, you'll need to grieve your loss of course and maybe even wait awhile until you feel ready for a new friend. An important thing to remember will be to not compare the new one to any of your past ones. I made that mistake as a teenager with a horse I had, which I got after my heart horse passed away unexpectedly. My new horse was great, but wasn't like the old one and I had a really hard time with it (though thankfully, I was eventually able to love the new horse for who she was). I also had a really hard time after losing the cat I was closest to, but ended up really bonding with my other cat while grieving his loss. The reality is that every one is different and none will be like any of the others, so your love for them will be different.

But, until then, just enjoy every moment with your guy!

Duh, this is the most normal thing ever. It's called parenthood.

My cat is old & I'm broken up about it too, but just appreciate the time you have & make the cat's life as happy as possible.

It's better to outlive your fur children then have them outlive you. They'd be confused and lonely if you went first.

Also they would eat your face lol...cat owner stuff!

    • Haha hey nothing wrong with that- eat away! Rather my cat get first dibs than maggots. And if dining on my corpse signifies moving on, then I'd pick that over my pet suffering from depression

There's nothing wrong with loving your pets. You give them love, they give that love right back.
