Is it normal antipsychotics doing the opposite?

Is it normal that I'm on antipsychotics (Abilify) for psychosis and their mostly doing the opposite of what they should be doing? I've been hallucinating a lot more despite my main one disappearing since being on it, but its helped my mood swings a lot too.
Is this odd?

Sometimes it takes a few different tries at different meds to find whay works for you. Everyone's brain chemistry is different, and some drugs affect you differently.

Tell the professional who prescribed you. They may tell you there is a period of adjustment - this is true for many drugs, but if your side effects are bad, or if, like your case, they just aren't helping at all, it may not be good to wait the entire adjustment period. Talk to them. If they are dismissive of your serious concerns, consider a second opinion.

    Good luck.

I wouldn’t say it’s “normal”, but certainly not rare. Abilify is a powerful drug, an SGA not an SSRI. For some it’s a miracle and for others it’s not. That’s the challenge with treating CNS conditions - people react differently to the same treatments. Talk to your doc. He/she probably needs to titrate the dose or switch you to something else.

I don't know which way to vote but it did something similar to me. I heard less but saw more. Also gave me this weird feeling like my face was inflating every time I closed my eyes.
If it's making anything worse it needs reviewing, there are other options.

Also, if you are taking a medication that has the side effect of DEATH and it doesn't seem to be working for you, yes, stop taking the damn drug.

No one even knows if abilify works or how it works.

It's an atypical antipsychotic with a side effect of causing irreparable psychosis, so yeah, it's not to be trifled with.

I tried to kill myself on that shit and I'm sorry but doctors don't have a clue what they are doing when they prescribe that shit and will back away at the first sign of problems.

When taking meds it's up to you to look out for yourself because no one else will.

Not the best idea telling somebody their antipsychotic is evil though.

If you take something, and you feel like your face is melting, stop taking it.

Yes abilify drove me straight into the psych ward with a manic delusional episode. I was telling the nurses I was able to read minds and I was hallucinating porn.

It depends why they gave it to you, but for the love of god don't keep taking it. No med should make you go psychotic during an adjustment period. If some idiot tells you that, make them take it.

I'm bipolar btw and took it to starve off mania. It did the exact opposite.

    Abilify is evil.

Some psychological medicine is harmful and dangerous.

Talk to your psychiatrist about it, and be detailed.

Personally, I would say that it is not normal, but it is fixable. You need to talk to your doctor about this right away! I have OCD and ASD And generalized anxiety disorder, and sometimes you have to try a lot of different medications before you find the ones that work for you. I have never been on anti psychotics before, so I don't really know much about them, But I do know how mental illness treatment works. It took me about a year before my psychiatrist could finally find the medications that I needed to be on. Mental illness treatment is kind of a trial and error thing. Don't worry, I know if you stay in touch with your doctors they will eventually find the right medications for you! I went through the same thing, trying different medications and having none of them work until I finally found the right ones. I'm sorry that you have to deal with mood swings, But there are hundreds of different Mental illness medications available. Trust me, if you stay in touch with your doctors and have a little bit of patience, you will eventually get the right medications.

The abilify is not a strong antipsychotic. It is said that it is a better antidepressant than an antipsychotic.
If you want strong antipsychotic action look for zyprexa, Risperdal.
If hallucinating is main problem look at haloperidol.

The abilify is partial agonist at dopamine receptors(raises dopamine when low and lowers dopamine when high). Since excessive activity of dopamine is responsible for psychosis, this can theoretically explain your abilify induced psychosis.

Sleeping pills are like speed to me.
    So, I think it's normal.
But I don't support your psychosis.
