If you scratch beneath the surface, it always comes down to the same things. People might act as if they are concerned about someone's weight, but really they're just offended and confused because someone is "breaking the rules" and not complying with the worldview put forward by Vogue, films, and television. It's a hugely ignorant viewpoint.
You'll sometimes get the "they're costing the healthcare system money" argument too. So are professional sportsmen who are regularly injured but nobody has a go at them, do they?
Being overweight (or having ginger hair) seem to be the last two things people feel justified in discriminating against. It's no better than racism.
