It's apparently very common for people in relationships to split up after someone they're dating becomes disabled, even after 10 or more years together. I think it would depend on the type of disability and how it would affect the couple's life. E.g. certain brain damage (in the frontal cortex) can drastically change people's personality. Also, people who are disabled can still have sex.
