I usually come down on the liberal 'each-to-their-own' side of most debates; but if you put a child up for adoption purely because it was born with a physical deformity then you are an awful, awful person.
I'm able-bodied and don't have a great deal of experience with handicapped people, and am ashamed to admit that some deformities do make me feel uncomfortable - but this would be my problem, not the child's, and raising such a child would hopefully teach me to be more comfortable about disability.
Here's a question for those of you who voted for adoption - what would you do if you had a child who then via an accident became disabled? Would you get rid of them as soon as they became damaged goods?

It is a lot of time, money and energy to take care of them. I think the people who voted for adoption saw it that way.
