I've been thinking more and more about adoption, lately...and I was just thinking the other day that while I know the right thing to do would be to adopt a child of any age, I really would prefer under, say, 6...purely because that's what I'm trained for, that's my comfort zone, and also I want to enjoy as many years with them as I can.
Genderwise, I'm not really fussed. I find boys easier to look after, but then, I've looked after almost twice as many boys as girls in my time (jesus...I just tallied it up...26 boys, 15 girls...that is fucking insane...) but if I were lucky enough to have a child to raise, I wouldn't care, I'd just be grateful for the chance to be a mum :)

Please learn to spell, here have some facts:
-Of the nearly 770,000 violent interracial crimes committed every year involving blacks and whites, blacks commit 85 percent and whites commit 15 percent.
-Blacks commit more violent crime against whites than against blacks. Forty-five percent of their victims are white, 43 percent are black, and 10 percent are Hispanic. When whites commit violent crime, only three percent of their victims are black.
-Blacks are an estimated 39 times more likely to commit a violent crime against a white than vice versa, and 136 times more likely to commit robbery.
-Blacks are 2.25 times more likely to commit officially-designated hate crimes against whites than vice versa.
So explain that. Blacks do a MASSIVE amount of crime, far more than whites.
Boy, 3 or younger preferably.
I am not making any definitive statements, but in my experience, boys are easier for me to look after. I am not a very feminine female and my brother is a rough and tumble bouncy baby boy and I LOVE him. In fact, I'd take 3-4 of my brother. I love being able to throw babies.
It is my understanding that you usually can't rough-house with baby girls. And I don't know if I could handle the princess stage and wouldn't want to chance it. But I would love a girl just the same.
I have thought a lot about adoption and my husband would be fine with it just so long as he got some biological children as well. My Mother was adopted and when I think of the family that she would have grown up in had she not been given up for adoption, adoption seems more and more like a grand thing to do.
hm.
from that list, Girl 3 or younger.
When they're that small, it's still possible to "imprint" them to you. Not in a complete way, but depending on age sufficiently that "you as mother" is all they know/remember. It's hard to explain, but a kid that came into your family with 15 years will NEVER see you as a mother the same way as one that came with 15 month.
As for why a girl: I'm a lesbian. Now, i know that sounds all wrong, but is not meant that way: Rather, it's about the relationships i have. With other girls. Now, for a young child, that may be uncomplicated...but i see problems in puberty. Male kid tends to have male friends, which, by experience, seem to care more about lesbians than female friends of a female kid. Also, if, for some reason, things between me and my partner fall apart, and i find someone new, i'd prefer my child not having the same orientation and possible phantasizing about MY partner. (Now, of course, that daughter could also turn out lesbian, or bi, but statistically, the chance is lower-) I'm tired and can't really explain well, but my IIN gold is over tomorrow *shrug*...so have to try now :)
If I ever would adopt a child, I would go for an older child, though as for the rest of the information I don't know.
Probably if anything I would do foster parenting when I got older, and if I ended up taking in any of the children I fostered and going for custody, that would be how I did it..
