You don't think insurance and public health programs should pay for it? I do. If you don't have the $400-500 or so to pay for it but don't want the baby, then what? Insurance will HAVE to pay for the pregnancy and birth, several thousands of dollars. Then if it's a low-income family, taxpayers will be supporting the unwanted kid for the next 18 years.
My state Medicaid pays for abortions, and my state also has a "Family Planning Benefit" available to almost anyone who needs it and doesn't have insurance. The income guidelines are more lax as compared to straight Medicaid, which you have to be essentially completely broke to get. So...they try to help reduce the # of children that end up "in the system" one way or another. The Family Planning Benefit covers gynecologist visits and prescription birth control. I support that 100%!
If you were in charge of everything, would abortion be legal?
