might as well make it legal, because it's gonna happen regardless. I'd rather them go to a licensed doctor than in the back of an alley >.<

Your logic doesn't fly with me. I see abortion as taking the life of another human.
Let's say I'm a robber. I think it should be legal for me to invade your home and rob you in the safety and comfort of your living room instead of waiting till you're running to the Kwik mart in the evening for beer and smokes, because it's dangerous for ME to be out on the street at night.
      I could get mugged.

If people want to get rid of their baby, then they should be able to, and will in a way that's probably not safe.

No one should be forced to raise a child, especially when they can't even look after themselves.

This poll is bound to get some people angry.

I am completely pro choice. That is all I will share in this comment.

Stop with the camps (pro life, pro cho... Chris Rock said Anyone who makes a choice before understanding the situation .....is a f***** idiot". don't be a camp.

    Reason things out...

so far only dappled has contributed a thoughtful answer. The rest of you just chose your camp and lobbed an argument. that's not intelligent.

How about, people had already thought it out and made their decision years ago? And maybe don't care to make a long list of reasons as to why? Don't care to argue about it? Like posting a long-winded arguement is going to change someone's mind? We've all heard the arguements before.

I made my decision about how I felt about abortion almost 20 years ago. The past 20 years have just solidified my position. Do you really think that all these people who responded to this poll JUST NOW decided upon reading the poll what their position was? GMAB. Of course not.

        hi devilla,

I think that there are many circumstances whereby abortion is required, and therefore I think 'no' is not an option. I would want, in many circumstances, a woman to have the right to abort.

My concern however, is that the life of the unborn child has to count for something. In other words I feel it would be wrong if it became just another casual procedure.

Just to make my self clear: I would legalize abortion as a way out of a difficult and complex situation, however not as some sort of after-thought contraceptive. This is where people should be focusing on. Not whether it's should be legal or not, but "how" it should be legal.

dappled mentioned examining at what point the baby get's the right to live and I think this would be a great (but tough) starting point.

your negative form was malformed, it should have read "...but Chris Rock isn't here,..." not "but Chris Rock's not here,...".

I'm pro life because I feel that you are killing or child when you have an abortion. If it was 2 seconds out of the womb and someone killed that child it would be all over the news where as abortion happens thousands of times a day. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it's not there! If you don't feel like you are able to raise that child give it up for adoption! Don't take it's life before it even gets the chance to live it!

If casual, unmarried sex wasn't such a pedestrian, commonplace thing; if people were a bit more responsible and still had some morals/values, there wouldn't be so many unwanted pregnancies. But that would be in an ideal world. Or how do they say? - Prevention is better than cure.

With regards to married couples: they should of course feel free to have sex when they please, but unless they want to have a(nother) kid - use protection. In the cases where that failed, unforeseen circumstances hit, or the couple simply changed their mind, then I think that abortion should be a viable option. Even so, I don't think such decisions should be taken lightly or allowed too easily.

  • well i am against abortion just as i am against any other sorts of murder, its a crime to abort a baby here (NIRELAND) And i would keep it one, with more prosecutions, and arresting women that go somewhere else to get one or anyone who helped her, or knew about it. don't want a baby keep your legs closed.
murder is murder, is murder, its a crime.

I put no to this but I am really on the gate about this. I would not condone abortion in a normal case but possibly in a rape case. For the following reasons.

1.Victem did not choose to get pregnant it was forced

2.may not be able to financially support the child

    3. The child might grow up hated since in fact she never chose to have a child

4.The victem may be too young to have the child and it might end in the mothers death or the child's still birth

5.The mother might be too young and deprived from the possibilities of the future since she can not make all the decision she could have without a child.

6.However I think it is alright if you must choose between a mother and baby and choose to save the mother since one might die.

Studies showed that less than 1% of abortions are not rape victims. So a little preventive is something you irresponsible mothers might want to try.

I think in any other case it is just mothers being irresponsible. You choose to have sex and to not use a condom so you should deal with the consequences of your actions. Not just murder a baby since you are too lazy to care for it. If you have a dog and it is hungry you do not kill it to get out of it.

  • Heck yes! Abortion should be very much legalized. Those who are pro-life annoy the living heck out of me. The adoption system is way too overcrowded and corrupt anyways.

I would legalize it but the baby would have to be aborted before 20 weeks.

I believe it should be legal for all. Not just for rape or incest victims. In my perfect world, I think people should have to apply and be approved to have a child. I think there are way too many people depending on the system to pay for a child. Even worse there are too many women out there that only have more children to stay in the system and receive more free assistance. Even worse then that, the women who have children to trap or keep a man. Bottom line, I believe there are more children being born for the wrong reasons verses actually wanting to raise and love and provide

You don't think insurance and public health programs should pay for it? I do. If you don't have the $400-500 or so to pay for it but don't want the baby, then what? Insurance will HAVE to pay for the pregnancy and birth, several thousands of dollars. Then if it's a low-income family, taxpayers will be supporting the unwanted kid for the next 18 years.

My state Medicaid pays for abortions, and my state also has a "Family Planning Benefit" available to almost anyone who needs it and doesn't have insurance. The income guidelines are more lax as compared to straight Medicaid, which you have to be essentially completely broke to get. So...they try to help reduce the # of children that end up "in the system" one way or another. The Family Planning Benefit covers gynecologist visits and prescription birth control. I support that 100%!

Abortion is just plain down and out murder. It states in the Bible that "Though shalt not kill" and that includes the lives of innocent unborn and defenseless like children.

Hey what are you stating by saying the Bible is outdated, is the truth you need to follow by, it is our instructions from God on how to live our lives to get His salvation. So if the Bible is outdated that means you are also stating that God is outdated, "SORRY CHARLIE" you are totally wrong.

However, you may purchase male or female slaves from among the foreigners who live among you. You may also purchase the children of such resident foreigners, including those who have been born in your land. You may treat them as your property, passing them on to your children as a permanent inheritance. You may treat your slaves like this, but the people of Israel, your relatives, must never be treated this way. (Leviticus 25:44-46 NLT)

just throwing that out there, the bible is no where near moral.

did you know that most of the military's higher ranks + the presidents tend to be catholic and therefore pro-life.

          wonder why. *cough*warfodder*cough*

Still go through having the child and put it up for adoption to a loving and caring family. A friend of mine was raped and wanted an abortion but then thought it through and realised it would not be fare to the living little human being inside of her, she was too young to raise it herself but she surly felt good when she saw the loving family that took her little child in.

Well what if you're raped by your father or brother? Please! You expect someone to carry that child? You expect someone to want that baby once it's born?

Had you thought about what might happen to a woman who is forced to carry a child of rape/incest? Many would probably do things to harm themselves and/or their baby, or even go as far as to kill themselves.

If your statement is true then they should take the father or brother and put them in a BOOB WARD. That is a total sign of perversion. Yes, I still feel that child should be born and then adopted out, it would be totally unfair to the little one, it was not his/hers fault that perversion was being carried on, so why kill it just to satisfy yourselves. No matter what the cercumstance is, and not matter how the child was made, ABORTION IS MURDER THROUGH AND THROUGH AND I AM TOTALLY "PRO LIFE" NO MATTER WHAT!
