  • Seriously? A half inch in this context is a major issue for anyone who's actually freaking sane?

First, unless you're time-traveller from the future and every intervertebral disc in your spine has been replaced with a non-compressible prosthetic disc, your height is naturally going to vary by about half an inch between the time you get up and when you finish being vertical for the day.

Second, if you put on shoes with even the thinnest heels, your functional height is going to increase by about half an inch.

Experiments have proved that, in the minds of many people, physical height is equated with social stature. Taller people are considered inherently smarter, more powerful and more worthy of attention. I therefore assume that those who insist you should round down your height want to keep you down in the metaphorical sense as well.
