If you lost your first language...

If you had to trade your native language in for another language, which would it be and why? By that I mean you lose all memory of your first language, can't learn it again, and will never be able to speak it again. Instead you are given a new language, without having to learn it. Basically, you are replacing your first language.

Since most of the user's first language is English, the option "English" shouldn't be getting many votes, as that would be the language you lost.

Apologies for the options, as I have made a pretty short list and obviously haven't listed every language, and some important ones would have been missed out. If I missed the one you want out, just leave it as a comment.

Russian. I love Spanish, but Russian matches my personality more.

I would choose mandarin, together with french and english I would know most of the world dominating languages. I will lose my dutch knowledge. But almost everyone in belgium understands english and french so it's not be a big problem.

I'd choose Japanese, but then I'd have to move.

If I had to switch to one it would be Japanese. A lot of people who know this are complete snobs. If I knew more that means I would be higher up the steps. People do not have a lot of hate for japan so and many of them are successful so becoming friends with them means I have good friends. I know this sounds really fucked up but japan are treated like god. I would love being friends with that. Japanese is very hard to learn and I had a lot of issues understanding it. I know I must be the biggest idiot on this planet for having issues learning other languages. I not going to deny it though. My first is English so I would have to give that up.

I would trade for mandarin because the Chinese are investing in evry single country and becuase it's one of the most difficult languauge to learn. My mother tongue is creole and losing it will not be fatal because I speak english and french too and all people here understand french. Ha!

It could have been Welsh, because I wouldn't have to move very far. Most Welsh people don't seem to speak Welsh though, so I'd probably choose French.

I would choose English. Most people here understand it anyway, so I wouldn't need to move anywhere.
