This is a great question that hurts dappled's head. Way too difficult to give a snap answer to this so I'm going to do what I occasionally do when someone asks a real poser. I'm going off to make a coffee and stare out of the window for fifteen minutes until I have an answer for you.
Gold star for you, by the way. I only come across a question like this every six months or so.
Aww, thank you!:D I'm glad you aren't rushing it, I had a feeling a lot of people would just instantly say something like "Hitler". Even though I can definitely see where they're coming from, I don't think I could erase him.
Hitler would be the obvious choice but the world may have been a worse place without him (I know that's odd to say). It's kind of difficult to remove any big figures from history because it's impossible to calculate the ramifications and the further back you go, the hard it gets. Remove, say, Genghis Khan and I think a large proportion of IIN users (including me) would wink out existence. You may even find that our technology hadn't moved beyond the Victorian age, meaning you and I could never have communicated this way. Or it may have advanced faster and we'd already destroyed ourselves.
I'm going to take the easy way out and pick a recent figure and also someone who impacts me personally. Harold Shipman. He killed 250+ people in my local area (including my best friend's grandmother) and had been attempted to be brought to justice by my family doctor (who sadly didn't live long enough to see him finally convicted).
I feel exactly the same way, which is why I feel weird about the idea of major historical figures being erased from history. I'd probably go for someone who had little impact (at least in comparison to someone like Hitler).
Hmm, nobody ever asks the OP what their answer would have been and, I think, with such a great question, that's a shame. So who, specifically, would you erase (and who would you bring back)?
Damn you, Jennifer!:P The only reason I put that part about not being able to choose "nobody" in the description is because that's what I would have chosen. Hmm, I'll try to think of an answer for both.
I will need several cups of coffee and lots of time for looking out of windows.:P This sort of thing takes me a very long time. I sort of have an idea for the second question, but it's a completely selfish answer. I'll think about it.
If you had to erase one historical figure...

I had the strongest feeling this was you, DaveBobs. And shame on you for wearing your new gold stars as earrings. :P
No offence to Nikola Tesla but I kind of want him to be dead again now and I want my grandma instead. :/
