    Nobody will remember me after sleep? Not only is eternal life a super power, so would that. I could rob a bank, commit any crime, the next morning, off scott free...

      read it again. to prevent exactly this(crimes etc), only people YOU LIKE will forget about your existance.

      Everybody else still knows about you, but to your significant other, or family, or nora, you never existed.
      Also, as said, violance can still kill you. If you try robbing a bank and get shot...game over.
