I would love for automation with regard to radio broadcasting in particular to be disinvented. I would love for local radio stations to be required to have live disc jockeys.
In what way, and what type of automation would you not like to see disinvented?
Nothing, I'm not talking about how far a signal can broadcast. I'm saying that I'm not a fan of automation. Radio stations can make announcers prerecord breaks so that the station can save money by not having to have a live disc jockey there so they don't have to pay the talent an hourly wage, and instead just pay them for the time it takes to record the prerecorded breaks.
I majored in radio/television/film in college, and used to work in radio almost twenty years ago. I just don't care for automation, because it means that there will be less jobs, especially less jobs for people who are trying to get started. I don't like automation, because I just prefer for people starting out in radio broadcasting to have the opportunity to start on weekends, or overnights.
I dunno, morning shows are generally live. Sometimes in smaller markets a morning show will be from satellite. Yeah, I wouldn't care to much for someone who was always talking about being drunk, but I dunno that sort of thing is more acceptable on an AOR station.
A lot of stations in smaller markets tend to be automated, or go to satellite on weekends, or on overnights.
An automation I would like to see disinvented are car alarms. I know it was made for people that tries to steal people cars but no one pays attention to and it’s annoying
If you could dis-invent one thing, what would it be?

Weird, most people wouldn’t want that to be disinvented. ;)

What does automation have to do with how far a radio station can broadcast its signal? Not doubting you, but curious what you mean.

There's one jockey on in the morning during my commute to work who's always bragging about being drunk... wonder if that was prerecorded.
