The best way to help poor people is to limit regulations and eliminate credit checks and background checks from employment screenings.
Most poor people just want good jobs that will help lift them out of poverty through hard work. Help them to do this by thinking about what really happens when you vote to save owls and all that bull crap.
The people who don't want to work shouldn't get help. I am poor as fuck btw and have 3 jobs. Why: employers won't hire me full time or over 32 hours a week because of bullshit Obamacare regulations among other things.
Just let employers and employees make their own deal, stop putting all this bullcrap you "think" will "help" us, they don't.
I like your attitude. I have always favored the Earned Income Tax Credit because you have to work to get it. Unequal distribution of wealth is good. But in the US, the lowest 20% have it worse than the lowest 20% of other industrialized nations. These people need enough stability to be able to teach their kids to read, and do math.
Creation of reasonably paid full time employment with some kind of job security would be nice.
People I know don't want & on the whole don't take handouts unless they have no other option.
All they want is a roof over their heads, utility bills that are up to date, a weeks holiday in the summer & some money for Christmas.
Me included.
I can't vote because it only allows choice of one option.
I'm fairly poor myself but do what I can: for example, at xmas half the value of every gift to family members was a donation to World Vision to build self-sufficiency in poor countries - water supply, a goat, a chicken. My family seem to appreciate it and I got a lovely grin of acknowledgment from one grandson when I pointed out on xmas day that everybody there has far too much stuff already.
I give things away rather than throw them away, either to charity shops or other good causes.
I also support political action to increase government benefits (including my own disability pension) over the poverty line and for governments to increase low rental housing and women's refuges.
One way I get to sleep when I occasionally have insomnia is to plan in my head what I'd do if I won a big lottery prize, both for myself and others.
In the states nearly all government assistance for homeless go to women. Single men are last in line regardless of circumstances, be it mental illness, drug addictions, physical problems.
It's pretty easy for a woman to get housing assistance, food assistance and health care but for men it's basically just food and health care.
