It's important to have self confidence and love yourself. But you should not be loving yourself for the things you're doing if you know they are things you shouldn't be doing. So in my opinion, no, you should not praise yourself no matter what you do. But you should tell yourself after you've fucked up, "I can do better than this. I got the potential to be a good person again. I can do it". Don't say "I'm a no good piece of shit", or "what's the use now?".
