Nah, don't keep potentially toxic people in your life just to have someone around. There are other ways to make friends. When I was younger I volunteered at an animal rescue and made a shitload of new friends. Then they became friends with the ones I had already. Maybe you can do some volunteer work.
A bonus is that volunteer work looks good on your resume and will help in your job search. Anyway, you're in a brand new town. It'll take some time but you'll make it.
