If pot was completely legal, how much and how often would you use it?

  • I'm speaking specifically about cannabis - that is what this question is about. I'm saying, particularly in response to your 'they made these illegal for a reason' statement, that sometimes the application of the law is inconsistent and the reasoning isn't perfect. It's good to consider this. Also the law varies from country to country, and attitudes vary from culture to culture. What is legal in one place is illegal in another.

And at no point did I say illegal drugs are great. Congratulations for jumping to conclusions.

    • If pot is illegal its illegal for a reason. Legalizing more drugs is not going to stop crime rates. Its an illegal drug and saying you want to legalize this is the same as legalizing speed, mushrooms and any other type of illegal substance.

      • Drugs like meth and heroin are a completely different topic from marijuana. Marijuana is less harmful than alcohol or tobacco. It's legal where I live and I think it should be. I do not think meth, heroin, pcp or any hard drugs should be legal because they fuck up society too much and cause a lot of problems. Have you ever heard of someone acting violent because of weed? If you have it probably wasn't the weed. Not all laws make sense either. If you google "dumb laws" you can read about thousands of pointless laws. One reason weed is illegal in some places is that the government makes money from prosecuting people for it. If you think it should be illegal that's fine but realize it is not on the same level as hard drugs. You should try to think deeper into your reasoning for what you believe.

        • Well I don't see how that can be true when they are having an issue with jail crowding right now. If they have no where to put they have no where to put them. Meaning they would most likely be more lenient on things like drug abuse and minor offences. If that is so why is there overcrowded prisons? Also if that was the case why don’t people seem to be jailed for things like smoking cigars or cigarettes?

          • Jails are over crowded because of lots of reasons. One of them is jailing people for stupid shit. At the same time people who should be in there longer are often let out too easily such as some child molesters. Here they never really put people in jail for long, if at all, over weed when it was illegal, but they did make money off fining people for it, so I wasn't necessarily talking about jail but I was talking about the fines people get. It's not jail they make money from, its the fines. What they are starting to do at least in the U.S. is try to legalize weed more and tax it a bunch like tobacco. The laws are different depending on where you live.

            • Jails are over crowded for one reason and one reason only; it's big business.
There are numerous people in American prisons doing extremely long (longer than for murder, rape or child molestation) for crimes such as possession of only a single marijuana cigarette. In the south people are jailed for months for simple traffic violations, if they are not affluent enough, and put to work on road gangs.
Many American jails have been privatized and those companies are paid for each prisoner incarcerated, each day.
If you think the "war on drugs" has anything to do with the government's sincere desire to protect society from the damage drugs can do to our youth, then you are sadly misinformed. The mandatory drug testing (pre-employment and random)has nothing to do with workplace safety either; the testing labs are owned by the legislators who passed the legislation! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE MONEY, honey!

              • If you have a business you do not want your workers getting high and drunk. I do not see how being high/drunk would ever be encouraged by a business. How about this scenario working in a factory or construction worker? Lets say they are drunk and working a heavy dangerous machine. Explain how that's a good idea? That is dangerous. Being high/drunk during work is DANGEROUS. I am sure these companies do not need idiots dealing with these products. Jobs should be taken seriously. Why do you believe having mind altering products would be a good idea in these type of situations?
