I know of many children who had been treated this way by their own families. It may go by a different term, but it holds the same merit. "I'd better do the dishes or he'll hit me." "I'd better make dinner or he'll hit me." "I gotta keep my brother from crying", you get the point. The thing is, it can all be compared. I've known a lot of horrific pain; scary, strange, and downright creepy.. It's all vaguely familiar to the pain I see on the faces of everyday people.
