    if you have a strong enough tolerance,you can still be sober after many drinks.

        Tolerance is a real thing. It can be due to different factors, mostly though it's tied to your body size and (or) how often you drink.

          I realise that, but I've also known many heavy drinkers who are in total denial about how much it affects their behaviour, health, driving ability, sexual prowess ......
